Introduction!

February 7, 2005

It’s time now that I give in to the temptation of starting my own blog site. I have been a regular reader of quite a few blogs (more on that later!) and think that I , finally, have something to write that may be useful / of interest to more than a few people.

I will start with introducing myself. My name is Ashish Kumar and am a software engineer by profession. I graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 2001 and have a bachelor degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the institute. After graduation, I worked with Microsoft in their headquarter – Redmond, USA – for 3 years before moving back to India in November 2004. Last in Microsoft, I was working as a software design engineer with Microsoft Commerce Server team and thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.

I am starting this blog to talk about my views on life in India and abroad, why it makes more sense for an Indian software professional to be in India at this time as compared to the ‘traditional land of opportunity – USA’, the challenges faced by a NRI returning back to India and the factors that made me decide in the favor of returning to India.

I will write more on the life in the last 3 months that I have been in India after returning back from the US but that is for tomorrow.

    Dear Ashish,

I went through your website and blogs. Very impressive and the same time entertaining. I can relate to you in the sense that I am presently working in the US and infact someday wish to open my own company in Calcutta. I totally agree with you about the Indians who have been nominated for the Indians of the year award. I must applaud you on your energy and courage to leave your plush job in US and face new challenges. We do need more entrepeneurs in our country. I wish you the very best and maybe next time you are here in US or in Calcutta we can meet up….:)

Sure – if you are in Delhi sometime – let me know. Where are you in the US?

Thanks for the reply….:) I’m based in Hartford Connecticut. Do u ever visit this side. It’s very close to Boston and New York. Read about ur OLX views. Excellent perspecive. It’s really nice knowing someone who in today’s world is true a patriot. It’s funny when I tell my coworkers I didn’t have to wash dishes when I was growing up they look at me with an expression that says “Oh right and I’m the king of Egypt”. But I do like it a lot here. Believe it or not I have actually kept a maid who comes in every alternate day which is like huge here. It’s really God’s grace that she is reasonable. Wish things are going well with you.

Came across ‘latestindia’. I am from Bangalore …have similar thoughts…our county needs more young entrepeneurs …currently based in Hartford, US…have plans to relocate in next one year.

Wish things are going great for you both.

    Bhushan.
